abadee-abadee-abadee, that's all folks!

It's over. It's all over. Summer has come and gone . . . ? How is this possible? I feel as though I just walked (or skipped) out of Pinewood on my last day of teacher in-service this past June. I cannot believe my Summer with the girls is over. No more carefree mornings. No more PJ's 'til after lunch. No more, "oh well, we'll just do it tomorrow". Back to the land of alarm clocks, and daycare, and WORK!

I can just hear everyone reading this (who isn't a teacher) yelling, "Oh Waaaa! You have to go back to work after a three month break! Cry me a river!" But yes, going back after summer break is hard! Do you remember what it's like to start a new job? Well, my friends, we start a new job every. nine. months.

So, Waaaaaaaaaaa, I say!

green acres

You all know that I married a country-boy. He's from a town with a population in the six hundreds, he loves to ride horses, he listens to country music, his dad works for John Deere, he wears boots, and his uncle runs a farm that has been in Carl's family for multiple generations. So I bet you know where his happy place is, right?

You got it.

Last weekend we were able to spend an evening (during harvest!) at the Adolphson farm. It is so fun watching Carl in his element. It's even more fun watching him share this "love" with his girls. Priceless.

Everytime we go back to the farm, Carl turns back into the little boy that helped his Grandpa Dale on the farm in the summers. It's pretty cool to witness :)

studious

Oh, my little Ella. Full of life, love and a little bit of the dickens! If I were to think of some adjectives that would describe her, I would list: sassy, loving, darling, witty, obedient (but only while with her father or in school), friendly, sparkling, and joyful. But we have a new adjective to add to the list, folks. And that word is Studious.

Ella has herself a new accessory . . . make that two new accessories!

We have discovered that Ella is slightly far sighted. After 9 months of telling me that "some cars look blurry to me when they go by" - - - which of course was a straight-up lie (a girl in Ella's class had pink glasses with a purple sparkly case which she had been having her eye on . . . ). But just to make sure, I took Ella in for an eye exam and (much to her excitement) it turns out that she is a little bit far sighted and may need glasses for a few years (the Doctor thinks she'll probably grow out of it).

Now things such as typing . . .

And reading . . .

will be easier for her.

And what can I say . . . she looks dang cute in her newest accessories! Watch out 1st grade! Ella Adolphson and her glasses are ready for you!

pic-i-nic

We have been incredibly busy. I know I sound like a broken record, but it is so true. You would think two teachers would have all the time in the world during the summer (at least that's what I always envision for us), but it couldn't be farther from the truth! Carl and I were talking about it the other night, wondering why this is the case . . . that is when we realized that between the two of us, we have 6 jobs. That's right. S-I-X. Not that I am complaining, because we do it to ourselves but here is our job list:

Carl:
1. Teacher
2. Coach (Football and Girls Basketball)
3. Driver's Training Instructor
4. Weight Room Coach/Supervisor

Anne:
5. Teacher
6. Photog
7. Professional Drinker (okay, this is more of a hobby, but Carl insists I should get paid for it since I am so good at it)

Why do we do this to ourselves you may ask? We need to.

Because of all of this crazy, we decided to take a little break and meet Carl on his lunch break to have a picnic in the park. This is something that I always think we will do more of, but I never seem to remember how much fun it is to simply pack up your lunch and enjoy it on a blanket outside.

(even Mario joined us!)

There was nothing glamorous about our picnic lunch. In fact, we had a straight-up, white-trash menu (peanut butter and jelly on hot dog buns, Doritos, Pringles, peaches, assorted beverages and cupcakes for desert. Because, we all know, when talking about picnics, the fun is never in the menu! :)

Photobucket
(Ella piped up out of no where and said, "this looks like a butt")

Photobucket
(the only bad part of the picnic was when the Port-A-Potty people came and empied the Pot nearby . . . everyone left the park except for us!)

We ate. We laughed. We played. And it was exactly what we needed.

Jocie and I are off to Montana tomorrow morning for my cousin Heidi's Wedding. It should be a blast!

Summer Nights

Okay, think of a perfect summer night . . . warm temperatures . . . hanging with friends, laughing and having a great time!

For me, I totally picture this:

Photobucket

Just the other weekend we headed down to Northfield, MN to visit our dear friends the Holts. I have been best friends with Christy since 4th grade, so it was sooooo fun to watch our kids have fun together.

I am trying to remind myself that summer is still HERE. Whenever August rolls around, I get a sick feeling in my stomach because I can't help to think (know) that my summer days are numbered and school will be here in a flash.

BUT, I will not fret away the rest of my sacred summer. I will live in the now. And the now is SUMMER!
